Driver Training Billabong Off Road Centre

Billabong Off Road Driver Training has been established since 1992 and initially all training was conducted at Landcruiser Mountain Park situated at Jimna via Kilcoy in Queensland, where we established a training area within the Park known as “The Billabong” Our clientele were mainly from the private sector and plans were quickly underway to attract business from the Government and Corporate Bodies.

Having completed Certificate 1V in training and assessment we applied to be accepted as a Registered Training Organisation and this was achieved in 2005.

In 2006 upgraded from 1996 we received further accreditation with local, state, and federal governments to deliver a nationally recognised training program developed by the Australian National Four Wheel Drive Council. To enable Billabong to deliver this course, all trainers were required to achieve the necessary qualifications as specified by the Australian Training Authority (ATA). Billabong Off Road has enjoyed the pleasure of training numerous government departments including emergency services (Police, Ambulance, Corrective Services) mining companies and, of course, private citizens.

The principals of the company are Garry Burke and David Smith, and all trainers are holders of Certificate 1V in training and assessment.

We have conducted training in Papua New Guinea and have enjoyed training many Government Departments including, Corrective Services, S.E.S, Parks and Wildlife, Federal Police, Ambulance and Rural Fire Brigade.

We are currently training for a number of mining companies in the Bowen Basin and North QLD. The courses we are delivering are to the requirements and standards as set by the mining industry and their safety first policies.

In 2007 we added to our Scope of Registration an Off Road Defensive Driving Course and a course in 4x2 safe operation of a vehicle.

Whilst maintaining our facility at Jimna, early 2010 will see us again adding to our scope of registration by adding courses enabling us to instruct in the heavy vehicle operation of tractors, skid steer graders and loaders.
